Flood Preparedness Kit
The flood preparedness toolkit is my senior thesis which is a prototype / template made out of ductape strips on a 6 x 8 ft industry grade tarp. My aim was to design a supplemental flood preparedness and survival kit that can also educate the community about proper precautionary measures while promoting resourcefulness. I designed the preparedness kit to provide 4 different functions / transformations: 1- A 24" x 36" calendar that provides information on monthly average water levels and temperatures, which directly affects flooding intensities. 2 - A 36" x 48" information board containing information on storm signals and proper precautionary measures inserted on a pouch. The guidelines are available in both English and Tagalog. 3 - A 3' x 8' supplemental supply/tool kit that can accomodate various materials that can be useful during flooding. 4 - A 6' x 8' SOS distress symbol that can be both used for search and rescue as well as an overhead shelter. I designed the prototype on a 6 x 8 ft industrial tarp commonly used for construction, as well as protection for debris and harsh environmental elements. The initial idea for the project was to create a multifunctional material that changes its purpose and what it visually communicates. The information on the prototype is specifically targeted towards the Philippines as the current prototype is designed for public schools and other designated evacuation shelters in the country. The information on each transformation can be be altered or updated to serve other purposes that can be helpful in specific communities or areas where the toolkit will be situated.
